cully barr
Cully Barr teaches Music to students in Grades 1 through 7 at Asheville Waldorf School, where he has been part of the faculty since early 2025. Although new to AWS, he brings over five years of teaching experience, both in classroom settings and private instruction. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Berea College in Kentucky, where he also served as a teaching assistant for both Music Theory and Class Piano.
His passion for teaching began during college as a private tutor, and it continues to grow as he helps each student discover and develop their unique musical talents. Before joining AWS, he taught private voice and piano lessons in Hendersonville, NC, and initially joined the school as a Eurythmy pianist before transitioning into the role of Music Teacher.
Cully believes each student’s creative path is unique and deserves to be nurtured with care. His approach focuses on personalizing instruction to support individual growth, helping students feel confident and joyful in their musical expression. He aims to cultivate not only musical skill but also collaboration, creativity, and confidence through group performances and individual practice.
Outside the classroom, he enjoys pottery, painting, hiking, and spending time with his beloved ginger cat, Cedric.
He hopes his students leave his class with a lifelong joy for music and a stronger sense of self, and that parents see this joy reflected in their children’s personal and artistic development.
