Nicole Romer
Nicole grew up in a small rural town in Western Massachusetts, where she lived with her family on an old wooded homestead along a river. From an early age, she was drawn to art, nature, history, architecture, and the beauty of working with her hands.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking in Boston and went on to own antique and vintage shops in both Boston and San Francisco. While living in San Francisco and after the birth of her first son, Nicole was introduced to Waldorf education and the work of Rudolf Steiner.
After returning to Massachusetts, Nicole and her son began attending a Waldorf parent-toddler class, beginning what would become a long relationship with Waldorf education. Both of her now-grown sons attended Waldorf school from early childhood through twelfth grade, and Nicole spent approximately 16 years teaching within the school community in a variety of roles.
After her youngest son graduated, Nicole completed her Handwork Teacher Training at the Fiber Craft Studio in New York. She went on to teach handwork at a Waldorf-inspired charter school in San Diego and at a public Waldorf school in New Hampshire.
Nicole is also the owner of Heavenly Hues, a small business she founded in 2012 through which she creates plant-dyed wool felt and yarn. She has continued to deepen her artistic studies through the Healing Power of Art program at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training in California.
Art in its many forms—including painting, printmaking, fiber arts, clay, and wood—has remained a lifelong passion for Nicole. She is delighted to bring her creativity, experience, and love of handwork to the Asheville Waldorf School community.
